Getting set up

Connecting Gmail

Google does not let a mail app sign in with your normal Google password. You create a 16-character app password instead — it works only for mail, and you can revoke it at any time without changing your real password.

  1. Turn on 2-Step Verification at myaccount.google.com/security if you have not already. Google requires it before app passwords appear.
  2. Go to myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
  3. Type OrbMail as the name and create it. Google shows 16 letters in four groups.
  4. In OrbMail, add your Gmail address and paste those 16 letters where it asks for the password. Spaces do not matter.

Your app password is stored in the iOS Keychain on your iPhone and used only to reach Gmail's own servers.

Google shows a broken robot: "The setting you are looking for is not available for your account"

This is Google's way of saying 2-Step Verification is turned off on that account, so the app-passwords page is hidden. Turn it on at myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification (about a minute, your phone number is enough), then go back to apppasswords and the page will be there. Google Workspace accounts from a company or school may have app passwords disabled by the administrator; ask them to allow "less secure apps / app passwords", or use a personal Gmail address.

Connecting iCloud

iCloud Mail works the same way: create an app-specific password at account.apple.com under Sign-In and Security, then paste it into OrbMail.

Connecting Outlook, Yahoo and others

Type your address and OrbMail configures the servers for you — it recognises more than 200 providers across Europe, Asia and the Americas. For anything else, enter the IMAP and SMTP details your provider gives you.

Trying it first

On the first screen, tap Explore with a sample mailbox to see the whole app running on invented mail, without connecting any account.

The AI features are missing

The daily briefing, summaries and reply suggestions run on Apple Intelligence, which needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. On other iPhones OrbMail works as a mail client without those features.

Subscriptions

Every new user gets 30 days with all features unlocked. After that, the AI features need OrbMail Premium; the mail client itself stays free and fully functional. Subscriptions are managed in Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone, where you can also cancel.
